Dancers helping food bank clients get square meals

PRESCOTT - The Harbour Lites Square Dancers will be holding their 9th annual Food Bank Benefit Dance on Saturday, November 5 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Prescott from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will be nine callers at this event and dancers from as far away as Ottawa, Cornwall, Napanee and Kingston are expected to attend. Each dancer is required to purchase an $8.00 ribbon as well as donate non perishable items of food. All proceeds from the dance will be donated to the South Grenville Food Bank.

The idea of a benefit dance began in September 2007, when members of the group decided to host a dance and they chose the South Grenville Food Bank to be the recipients.

Although the dancing season is only from September to April, members realize the need for food at the food bank is ongoing. Therefore the Harbour Lites group decided to collect food on their theme nights once a month throughout the dancing season. A few members of the dancing group also volunteer their time once a week at the food bank.

Over the past eight years, Harbour Lites have raised $8,700.00 and collected 1,600 non-perishable food items for the food bank.

Our wish list for this week is cereal and juice boxes.
