Santa brings Flyers three points for Christmas
PRESCOTT - With a fresh dusting of snow on the ground to mark the holiday season, Santa dropped into the Leo Boivin Community Centre on Saturday night to bring the Prescott Flyers a much-needed win over their rival Brockville Tikis. The victory saw the Flyers cap off a three-point weekend and grab a little breathing room in the fight for the final playoff spot in the CCHL2 Richardson Division.
Prescott travelled to Alexandria on Friday night to face the Glens.
The home-team Glens outscored the Flyers 2-1 in the first period. Alexandria netted two more in a middle frame that saw the visiting Prescott bench come to life, scoring four goals of their own and taking a 5-4 lead back to the dressing rooms. In a repeat of the first period, Alexandria outmatched Prescott two-goals-to-one once again, tying the game at six each and sending the match into overtime. The home team prevailed in the extra frame, getting the winner past Flyers goaltender Brennan Dumas at the 2:43 mark. Final score Glens 7 - Flyers 6. Prescott goals came from Cameron McLean, Joel Hunt, Carson Pickup (2), Devon Burns and Shawn Patterson.
Back at the Leo, with old St. Nick in the house, 24 hours later the Flyers dominated the Tikis earning a convincing 7-2 victory. Brockville kept it close for the first ten minutes, keeping the game 2-1 until the Flyers erupted for five unanswered goals. It was a lopsided 6-1 affair mid-way through the game. The teams swapped goals in the final portion of the night as Prescott coasted to the 7-2 victory. Shawn Patterson, Carson Pickup, Devon Burns, Joel Hunt (2), Greg Heika and Devan Miller tallied for the Flyers. Sam Limoges made 23 saves for the win.
The Flyers are back on the ice December 30 in Westport facing the Rideaus for their final 2016 game. They open the New Year at home on January 7 against Ottawa West Golden Knights.
