Rangers excite crowd with playoff victory
PRESCOTT - The South Grenville Rangers are one point away from advancing to the next round of the National Capital Junior Hockey League (C) playoffs. The home team delighted a partisan crowd at the Leo Boivin Community Centre on Monday night by defeating the Metcalfe Jets and earning two points in game-one of the home-and-home series to determine which team will move on to the next round of the NCJHL postseason. The first team with three points wins the series. The Rangers need only a tie, as the series moves to Metcalfe on Wednesday night, to advance. Captain Carson Pickup led the way in a game that saw an exceptional team effort from the entire Ranger's bench. Pickup's shorthanded goal, midway through the first period, was the winner and set the tone for the evening. Devon Buns notched the other two markers for South Grenville, one in each the second and third frames. Lee Spurgeon earned the shutout, turning back everything the Jets fired at him. Game two is set for Metcalfe, with a 9:30 p.m. start time.
