Donald Peters, 9667 County Road 18, RR 2 North Augusta, died Friday, May 16, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 77.
He was born June 29, 1925 in Watrous, Saskatchewan, to Charles Peters and the former Minnie Hughes. When he was a young boy, they moved to the Cardinal area, and as an adult, Mr. Peters worked as an operator/labourer at Canada Starch (Casco) for 43 years. He retired in 1990.
He married Gwen Cooper June 22, 1946 at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Garretton. They purchased a farm in Garretton where they raised their family and later built their retirement home.
His first and foremost priority in life was his wife and family. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including farming, hunting, trapping, making maple syrup and playing horseshoes.
Games of euchre with family or friends or an evening dancing were among his favourite pastimes. Mr. Peters was very active in the Roebuck Senior Citizen Club and he participated in the Ontario Senior Games.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Peters; two sons, Dale Peters and wife Tammy of Niagara Falls and Tim Peters and his wife Sherry of Garretton; two daughters, Wendy Gottfried and her husband Carmen of Brockville, and Nancy Peters of Spencerville.
Mr. Peters is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Vicki (Rob), Andy (Bev), Tara (Rob), Liam, Kenneth, Noel, Stephanie, Jennifer, Brendan, Nathan and Shannon; and four great grandchildren: Zachary, Nicholas, Jacob and Emily will sadly miss their beloved "Gumpy."
He is survived by his brothers: Gordon (Addie) of Prescott, Ronald (Verna) of Cardinal, Gerry (Margaret) of Lindsay; sisters: Margaret Seeley of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Joyce Henry (Jim) of Ridgeview, Shirley Ellis of Brockville, Carol McLaughlin of Cardinal, and Barb Bailey (Bob) of B.C.; as well as his sisters-in-law Shirley Robinson (Carl) and Pearl Cooper and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, Charles and Minnie Peters, step-mother Pauline Peters, and a brother Walter predeceased him.
At Mr. Peters' request, there was no visitation. Cremation took place at Cataraqui Crematorium, and on Sunday, May 25, 2003, a graveside service was held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church Cemetery. Rev. Allan Gault officiated, assisted by Rev. Ted Guthrie.
Donations to St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Garretton, and to the Alzheimer Society were gratefully accepted in his memory.
Arrangements were entrusted to Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott.
Joanne Elizabeth Pillar, a Prescott resident known for her passionate interest in sports, recreation and children, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville. She was 42, and had suffered with cancer for the past four months.
Miss Pillar was born April 1, 1961 in Brockville to Seeley Pillar and the former Betty Doran, of Kingston Crescent, Prescott. She was raised in Prescott, and graduated from South Grenville District High School. She was also a graduate of Algonquin College in Ottawa and St. Lawrence College in Brockville.
She had been employed as an attendance counsellor at SGDHS, a student support worker at St. Francis Xavier School in Brockville, and at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Elementary School in Smiths Falls. She was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church in Brockville.
Miss Pillar loved children, and she had a special way with them. Children felt her dedication and responded positively in the school, on the ball field and the basketball court. In the church, she was involved with the youth group, arranging youth dances, bus trips to Wonderland and Senator games. She spent most of her summers coaching and umpiring baseball, and in the winter after school, coaching boys and girls basketball.
During the 1980s, she volunteered for the Town of Prescott applying for grants and funding for various youth programs. She was a key member of the Prescott Recreation Committee and a tower of strength and devotion to the annual Youth Under Construction conferences. She was passionate about children, and grasped the importance of helping children at risk. Much of her early work formed the basis for future youth programs throughout the area. Her love of sports and children gave her a busy life. She touched many in her short life and will be missed.
Miss Pillar is also survived by her sister, Tammy (Phil) Clarke of Nepean; nieces Cassandra and Samantha Clarke; and cousins Deborah Price, Spencer Marginson and Bradley Marginson.
Visitation was held at Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, April 20 and 21. The funeral took place at St. John Bosco Church Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 10 am, with Father John Hibbard as celebrant.
Pallbearers were Greg Beach, Larry Darling, Bradley Marginson, Roger Patenaude, Lyall Gilmour and Spencer Marginson. Interment was at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Prescott.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice of Providence Palliative Care.
John Reginald Preston, a resident of County Road 44, Spencerville, whose main interests were his home and family, died at home Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003. He was 64.
He was born April 2, 1938 in Ottawa, the son of Elisha John Preston and Greta Wyman. He married Audrey Preston (nee Hoogwerf) April 4, 1959 in Prescott.
Mr. Preston is survived by his wife Audrey; mother Greta Preston; daughters Cheryl Massey (Larry) of Cardinal, Elona Morley (Gord) of Frankville, and Ellen Lamothe (Claude) of Cardinal; grandchildren John and Crystal Massey, Sarah, Jamie and Andrew Morley, and Daniel Lamothe; and great grandchild Zoey. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Preston was predeceased by his father John Preston and sister Anne Paul.
He had been employed as an assembly line worker at the Prescott RCA electronics plant (Thomson Consumer Electronics) until it closed.
Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where the funeral took place in the chapel Feb. 16 at 2 pm. Pastor David Gogolin officiated
A committal service will take place at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Prescott, in the spring.

Rosemary Ruth Prophet, 301-275 Water St., Prescott, died Tuesday April 1, 2003 at Kingston General Hospital. She was 73.
She was born Feb. 16, 1930 at Port Arthur, Ont., the daughter of Alfred Devine and Melvina Clavet. She married Alex Prophet Feb. 22, 1963 in Prescott.
Mrs. Prophet is survived by her son Greg (wife, Lesley); stepsons Whitney Prophet (wife, Colleen), Rich Prophet (wife, Jan) and Don (wife, Sharon); stepdaughter Kathy (Mrs. Fred Webster); 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers George, Joe, Larry, and Jim Devine; sisters Bernie Lampet, Fran Caldwell and Betty Morell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Alex.
Visitation was held at Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, Thursday, April 3, 2003. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, Prescott, April 4 at 11 am, with Father John Appelman officiating.
A committal service will be held later in the spring at St. Mark's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Webster, Jeff Webster, Scott Monro, Rob Prophet, Justin Jager and Derek Jager
Memorial donations may be made to St.Vincent de Paul Palliative Care.
Thomas Joseph Quigley, 445 Prince St., Prescott, died Friday, June 27, 2003 at Mayfield Residence in Prescott, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 70.
Mr. Quigley was born June 19, 1933 in Admaston, the son of Thomas Quigley and Ida Lynch. He married Marion Quigley (nee Montgomery) in 1957.
He is survived by his daughters Cathy (Mrs. Jim Cooper) of Maitland and Sharon Quigley of Prescott. Grandfather of Courtney and Justine Cooper. Brother of Louella (Mrs. Carmen Quinn) of Cobden, Margaret (Mrs. Martin Munhall), Pat (Mrs. Clayton Gallagher), Jim Quigley and his wife Liela all of Renfrew. Brother-in-law of Darlo (Mrs. Jim Lewars), Mae Grant (Floyd Dixon) all of North Augusta, Jean Harris (Duncan Campbell) of Kemptville, Joyce (Mrs. John Marshall) of Florida, Max McCallam of Prescott, and Harry Grant of Cardinal. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
Mr. Quigley was predeceased by his parents, wife Marion, and parents-in-law, Clifford and Dorothy Montgomery.
Mr. Quigley came to Prescott in 1952 where he worked for Fraser-Brace. In 1953, he began working for RCA, where he met and married his wife Marion Montgomery in 1957. He retired from RCA in 1993 with many fond memories and good friends.
His main interests included his family, friends and his dog Sammy. He spent many hours with his granddaughters, teaching Courtney to drive and accompanying Justine to the riding stables. He enjoyed business travel with his son-in law-Jim. He visited China, England, Texas and other locations. Mr. Quigley and his 12-year-old collie Sammy were well known throughout Prescott, always stopping for a visit or offering a wave on their many walks around town.
He always continued his self-taught interest of fiddle playing, entertaining family and friends.
Visitation was held at Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, Sunday, June 29, 2003. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 30 at St. Mark's Catholic Church with Father J. Appelman officiating. Christian Burial followed at St. Mark's Cemetery, Prescott.
Pallbearers were nephews Michael and Brian Knapp, Blain and Blair Harris, Jeff Grant, Mark Lewars and friend Gary Pitkin.
Donations were made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Mayfield Retirement Residence.
Tom was a much-loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbour, and a great friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed but will always remain in our hearts.
Alison Margret Roduner died peacefully, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003. Shewas five months old.
She is survived by her parents, Jennifer and Jason Roduner, and sisterKaitlyn Roduner, of Bradford. Alison is also survived by her grandparents,Bonnie and Bruno Ruduner of Cardinal and Theresa and Francis Duquette ofMidland; and great-grandparents, Margret and Walter Roduner of Cardinal.
Visitation took place at Lathangue and Skwarchuk Funeral Home, Bradford,Ontario, Friday, Nov. 7, 2003. A private family service was held in thechapel of the funeral home, Saturday, Nov. 8, with Father Larry Leger officiating.A committal service followed at Holy Martyrs Cemetery in Bradford, Ontario.Pallbearers were uncles Kevin Roduner and Chuck Duquette.
Alison was with us for a short period of time, but she was, and alwayswill be one of the most precious things in our lives. Her beautiful littlesmile made our day. Every day with her was special.
She's now flying with the angels, just being a happy little baby, withno more tears and no more pain, as it should have been right from the beginning.Have fun sweetie. We will always love you.
