She was born April 1, 1915 in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter of Samson Elliott and Elizabeth Bell. She married John Allin in July 1955 in Montreal. A resident of Sarnia for the past four years, Mrs. Allin had also lived at RR 2 Iroquois for 26 years and in Montreal. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. John's United Church in Cardinal. She is survived by her stepson Edward (Janet) Allin of Sarnia; stepdaughter Lillian Harrisson (Bernie Pelletier) of Morrisburg; and 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John; stepson John Allin Jr.; and stepdaughter Norma Madden. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. DORIS ALLISON Doris Allison, a resident of Hill's Trailer Park, Morrisburg, for the past 14 years, died Monday, April 29, 2002. She was 76. She was born July 10, 1925 in Williamsburg Township, the daughter of Garnet McKenzie and Inez McKenzie (nee Salmon). She was a life-time resident of the area. She married Hartley Allison June 29, 1946 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Riverside Heights. Mrs. Allison was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 538 in Williamsburg, and a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Riverside Heights. Mrs. Allison is survived by her husband; children, Anne Fournier (Lee Crozier) off RR 3 Prescott, and Michael (Beverley) of Sayward, B.C; and by her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by husband, family and friends. The funeral service was held at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at 11 am, with Rev. Bill Byers and Rev. by the family ARMSTRONG, GEORGE George Edward Armstrong, of Spencerville, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002. He was 88 years old. He was born in Matilda Township April 29, 1914, to Alex Armstrong and Jaramina Foot. Mr. Armstrong spent his life doing what he enjoyed the most working his farm in the Shanly area. He was also a milk transport driver, transporting milk from the farms to the dairy. In 1943, he married Ruth Beckstead in the town of Dundela. Among his favourite hobbies were fishing, bingo, playing cards, watching wrestling and visiting the Casino. He also had a keen interest for machinery and enjoyed spending his time repairing farm equipment. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Beckstead of 59 years. He was the loving father of Edith Sipes of Morrisburg, George Armstrong Jr. of Cardinal, Stephen and Brenda Armstrong of Winchester, Barbara Armstrong of Spencerville, Audrey Typhair of Oxford Mills, Linda Mawhinney of Brockville and Ann Winters of Brockville. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation for the late George Armstrong was held at Grant Brown Funeral Home, Purcell Chapel, Spencerville, Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon to 2 pm. The funeral service followed in the chapel, officiated by Rev. Donald Wachenschwanz. Miriam Woodland was the organist for the service. Spring interment will be at South Gower Cemetery. ROBERT "GARNET" ARMSTRONG Robert "Garnet" Armstrong, 79, a resident of Brockville for the past year, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 at the Hospice of Providence, St. Vincent Site, following a one-year battle with cancer. He was born June 5, 1923 in Brockville, the son of James Armstrong and Fanny Toye, and was a resident of Cardinal most of his life. He married Thelma Gray July 17, 1976 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Cardinal. Mr. Armstrong was warden at St. Paul's Church for more than 20 years. He was retired from his position as manager of LCBO, Cardinal Branch. Following retirement, he was also an active volunteer for the Seniors' Support Centre in Cardinal and the VON, driving many people to and from appointments. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his stepchildren, Howard Gillmoure and his wife Carol of Brockville and Ruth and her husband Jerry Walker of Ottawa. He was the grandfather of Tracey Gillmoure of Rensselaer Falls, New York, and Michael, David and Tyler Walker, all of Ottawa. He was the brother-in-law of Vera Armstrong of Cardinal; and dear uncle of Edna (Mrs. Weldon McLeod) and Marie (Mrs. John Dixon), all of Stittsville, Madeline (Mrs. Larry Hall) of Lively, and Dale and his wife Shirley of Nachawick, N.B. Mr. Armstrong was predeceased by brothers Jay, Lloyd and Harry Armstrong, and by his sister, Mabel Armstrong. Friends called at Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal Friday, Nov. 8, 2002. WILLIAM EARL "BILL" ARMSTRONG William Earl "Bill" Armstrong, RR 3 Prescott, died peacefully at Winchester Hospital surrounded by his family Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002. He was born Sept. 25, 1917 in Edwardsburgh Township. He was the son of Stanley Armstrong and Annabelle Seeley, who predeceased him. He was married to Madalene Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong had been a truck driver on the milk run for Husband's Transport of Brouseville, and lived his lifetime in and around the Cardinal area. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife Madalene and daughters Martha (Terry) Mizuik of Port Colborne and Marianne (David) MacDonald of Cardinal. He is lovingly remembered as papa to Stacey Sulaiman (Steve), Katie, Michael, Jordie and Kailee and great grandchildren Sadie, Samuel and Sachairi. He will be sadly missed by Harley and Itty Bits. She was born March 28, 1915 at Prescott., Ont., the daughter of John George Baynham and Ethel Mae Vallance. She married James Atkinson June 5,1934 at Prescott. She is survived by her son Robert (wife, Lynda); brothers Lelland (Ella), Alton (Doreen), Spencer (Evelyn), Ken (Joyce), Reg (Marion) and John (Bernadeen) Baynham; her sister Kathleen Finnerty; grandchildren Michael Atkinson, Krista (Mrs. John Doris), Julie Atkinson, Bill Stephenson and Chastity Stephenson; and great grandchildren Jack Andrew Doris and Hailey Dawn Stephenson She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her daughter Elizabeth Stephenson; her brother Victor Baynham; and her sister June Strader. Mrs. Atkinson enjoyed her family, knitting, friends, Wellington Rebecca Lodge, gardening and cooking. She worked as a housewife and mother, and as a cook at St. Lawrence Lodge for nearly eight years. Previously, she was a cook at the 401 Inn (Prescott) and then at the Brockville 401 Inn. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Prescott, Wellington Rebecca Lodge No. 108, Prescott, and a member of the Maynard Women's Institute for 60 years. He was the son of the late George Arthur Baker and the late Christina Lauderville. He was also predeceased by his brothers Hugh and Howard in WWI. He was also predeceased by his brother Wade and his sister Betty. Mr. Baker spent most of his life in Prescott. He married the former Edna Mae Barkley April 22, 1950 at St. John's Anglican Church. She predeceased him in 1994. He had been a long-time employee of Newell Industries. GORDON BASS Gordon Bass, a resident of Edwardsburgh Township most of his life who most recently resided at RR 1 Brinston, died at home suddenly, Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. He was 68. He was born in Edwardsburgh Township May 31, 1934 to Robert Bass and Rebecca Alkerton. He had been the loving companion of Ida Smith for the past four years. Mr. Bass had worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway, had been a heavy equipment operator, worked at the Johnstown elevator, for R.W. Myers, Township of Edwardsburgh and part-time for Connolly's farm. Although he had resided in western Canada for a short time, Mr. Bass spent most of his life in the Cardinal and Spencerville areas, and the past four years in the Brinston area. He was a member of the United Church. Mr. Bass is survived by his children: Charlie and his wife Pam of RR 1 Cardinal, Arthur and his wife Belinda of Ottawa, David of Merrickville, Becky and her husband Kevin Martin of Ottawa, and Heather and Jessica, both of Valparsio, Indiana; and brothers and sisters: Earl and his wife Ruth, Russell and his wife Joan, all of Spencerville, and Edith Ferrier of Perth. He will be sadly missed by four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. She was born Sept. 4, 1926 at Brockville, the daughter of Dawson Alkerton and Beatrice Blair, who predeceased her. She married Alton Baynham March 12, 1948 at Maynard. ELVA LEE BEATSON-STYLES Elva Lee Beatson-Styles, formerly of Cardinal, died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at her home, 5727 Ferdinand St., Osgoode. GOLDA BECKSTEAD Golda Beckstead, a resident of 26 Broder Crescent, Morrisburg, for the past 10 months, died at Winchester District Memorial Hospital Monday, Aug. 19, 2002. She was 76. She was born Sept. 17, 1925 in Matilda Township, the daughter of James Cowan and Elsie May Cowan (nee Wallace). She married John Beckstead Nov. 28, 1945 at Heckston United Church. He predeceased her in 1990. Mrs. Beckstead had been a lifetime resident of the area, and was a faithful and dedicated member of the Community Family Church of Iroquois. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking and baking. She is survived by her children, Arnold of Prescott, Carman (Eva) of Brockville, Carl of Brockville, Retha (Leonard) McConville of Hamilton, Kelvin (Faye) of Prescott and Gary, at home; brothers and sisters Sam (Marie) Cowan of Prescott, Muriel (Ron) Molton of Lyndhurst, Doris Rupert of Prescott, Yvonne Cowan of Morrisburg and Eileen (Ted) Hunter of Domville; and by many nieces and nephews. by the family. EVELYN BELL Evelyn Bell, 86, a resident of Wellington House, Prescott, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002. She was born July 16, 1915, the daughter of John Stephenson and Susan Dale Warren. Mrs. Bell was predeceased by her first husband, Cleveland Perrin, and her second husband Leaon Bell. She had been employed as a postmistress. She is survived by one sister, Sadie Jean Myers; nieces Marie Stephenson, Anna Jean Myers, Marlene Myers and Donna Norman; and nephews Donald Stephenson, Peter Myers, Davis Myers and Freddy Stephenson. She was also predeceased by her brothers Arthur and Norman Stephenson, and sister Lillian McCully; niece Helen Prins; and nephews John McCully, Garry Stephenson and Donald Myers. ERNEST DAVID BERRY Ernest David Berry, 413 First Street, Cardinal, died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Brockville General Hospital following a year-long illness. He was 81. He was born in Ventnor Sept. 17, 1920, the son of Ivan Berry and Eva Berry (nee Phillips). Mr. Berry married Elsie Berry (nee Leizert) Nov. 6, 1943 in Shanly. He had been a resident of Cardinal for the past 53 years, and was a retired mechanical operator at Canada Starch. Mr. Berry was a member of St. John's United Church, Cardinal. He is survived by his wife Elsie; his children Bonnie (Rod) Charlton of Brockville, Barbara (Paul) Edgley of Brockville, Donald Berry (Kathy Whitmore) of Brockville, David Berry (Dana Hyde) of Nepean and Kenneth (Janice) Berry of Spencerville; sisters Doris Gilmour of Prescott, Verna (Ralph) Dennis of Ottawa and Betty (Irwin) Buker of Prescott. He was the dear grandfather of Jennifer (Daniel) Jason (Jennifer), Paula (Jeff), Daniel, Matthew, Jonathan, and Kyle, and the dear great grandfather of Dallas, Jillian and Madison. He was 60. Mr. Bishop was born Sept. 26, 1941 at Gananoque, Ont., the son of Manley Bishop and Eva Little of Gananoque. He is survived by his mother, Eva Barber of Merritt, B.C.; his wife Pat Bishop; daughters Lorie (Mrs. Carl Visser) and Bonnie Bishop; brothers Floyd and his wife Faye, and Bruce and his wife Shirley; grandsons Curtis and Travis; extended family Clifford and Henry Barton; and several nieces and nephews. EDNA IRENE BONENFANT Edna Irene Bonenfant, a former Prescott resident and most recently of IOOF Home, Barrie, died peacefully at her residence Wednesday, April 10, 2002. She was 77. Mrs. Bonenfant lived on Victor Crescent in Prescott with her family from about 1965 to 1979, and was known to be the first school crossing guard in town, stationed on Edward Street near the high school. She was also employed as a health care aide at Wellington House in Prescott. She was born Aug. 21, 1924 in Toronto. Mrs. Bonenfant was the beloved wife of the late Olivier Georges Bonenfant; dear mother of Sandra Bowen (Jon) of Barrie, Tom (Helena) of Ottawa, Paul (Vicki) of Hamilton, John of Brockville, David (Cathy) of Peterborough, Bill (Sheila) of Barrie and Stephen (Wendy) of Angus; grandmother of Todd, Donna, Stephanie, Shannon, Alex, Andrew, Lisa, Kim, Tania, Jessica, Davey, Wendy and Nancy; and great grandmother of Jessica, Randy, Matthew and Rachel. He is survived by his family: Matthew and Jessie and Sheila Boyd; his brother Peter (wife Carlene); sisters Diana (Mrs. Dennis Smith), Cheryl (Mrs. Mark Davy), Debbie Boyd and Billy Martin; nieces and nephews Heather and Sarah Smith, Lee and Shanna Davy, Victoria Boyd, Ashley and Vanessa Martin, Aimee and Phillip Boyd. He was the grandson of Clayton Seeley and son-in-law of Ed and Sandra Arcand. Mr. Boyd enjoyed his family and horses, and had been employed as a millwright at Casco. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Prescott, Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002 at 2 pm, with Father J. Appelman and Father Rob Arsenault officiating. The pall bearers were Paul Bernier, Corey Earl, Dap O'Brien, Kevin Patrick, Gary Rayner, Rennie Rayner, Martin Stobo, Paul Whitney, Randy Whitney Burial will be at St. Mark's Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Home, Prescott. RICHARD ARDEN "DICK" BRYAN Richard Arden "Dick" Bryan, 72, of Cardinal, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at Brockville General Hospital. Mr. Bryan was born May 24, 1930 in Gallingertown, Ontario to Jim and Rose Bryan, nee Arden. He served with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada and spent time at the base in Calgary and served overseas as well. He later became well known in Cardinal working as a painter and decorator, he worked for Dodge Construction and was also a gifted carpenter and cement worker. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, bird watching, coin collecting and making preserves. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Cardinal Fish and Game Club and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105 in Cardinal. He is sadly missed by Jack, Kevin, Mary Clare, Jill, Emma, Dan and Frances Patrick of Cardinal. He was predeceased by sisters Helen and May, and by brother Lyle. Friends called at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal, Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002. A Legion service was held at 7 pm. Funeral services were held at the funeral home Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at 11 am. Rev. Jack Urquhart officiated and friend Jack Patrick provided the eulogy. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cardinal. Pall bearers were courtesy of Legion members of Branch 105: Ben Allard, Harry Cook, Harold Magee, Tom Beatson, Jack Gilligan and Garfield Wright.
