Hilan Wood Preserves soldKEMPTVILLE A Quebec-based company has purchased the Hilan Wood Preserves pressure-treated lumber plant in Kemptville. The Lebel Group, one of Eastern Canada's largest independent lumber processing and distribution companies, acquired the plant November 9. In a press release, company president Bruno Lebel said, "the geographical location of this plant will enable us to provide improved services to our customers in the Ottawa Valley and Abitibi regions of Quebec and become more competitive in Ontario." Hilan Corporation currently employs 20 people at peak production periods. Under the new ownership, the plant will be supplied with lumber from the open market and from the sawmills of Deniso Lebel Inc., another Lebel Group Company. "This new acquisition fits very well into our development strategy in terms of our aim to increase our share in the value-added wood products sector," said Lebel. North Grenville Mayor Don Cameron said he was pleased with the announcement. "They will be expanding and changing the product line and adding new people," said Cameron. "This is another example of how strategically located North Grenville is, and is another sign of the increased economic activity we have been seeing in this area in 1998." Cameron said demographic projections indicate the North Grenville area could see growth of 10,000 people or more over the next 10 years. |
